Last year was a mare, and I’m not referring to the four legged variety.
It started well enough and there was a spring in my step as I entered the second term of my MA in Sports Journalism.
But then out of the blue I found myself in hospital and a couple weeks later had a bypass operation.
Of course, I had to drop out of college and though disappointed I was confident that if I had chosen to take this career path I would have been an okay sports journalist.
But worse was to follow.
In the Summer my brother suddenly passed away from a massive heart attack.
The family was – and remains - devastated by our loss. And it has made us all appreciate how fragile life is.
For me it meant reassessing my priorities and ironically this blog’s title ‘Sport…Life and the Universe’ took on another meaning.
Supporting charities had always been an interest. However, I felt that there was so much more that I could do.
My aim for 2012 is to combine my past business and marketing experience with my overriding passion in sports to ‘give back’.
In the months that follow news of my achievements will feature on this blog.
So be sure to look out for them and then, of course, please do lend your support!
Many thanks,
Eddie
